Parent quote from The Business Monthly, Dec, 2003 issue Cornerstone Academy Serves Special Students, by Joan M. Kasura
“…(she) credits Cornerstone’s incredibly nurturing environment for the seemingly unbelievable turnaround in her son’s confidence, self-esteem and learning abilities.
She is pleased that her son is finally getting an education in a way he can learn.”
“Thank you for inviting me for an on-site tour and presentation of the work of Cornerstone Academy of Mount Airy. I’m glad I went!
I now have a clear sense of the professional skills and warm personal attention that your students receive. Also, I can describe for parents the student population you are ideally suited to assist. The Christian environment and principles of education can only add to the significance of the children’s education.
Finally, I want to say that I am grateful that I can now point families to a Christ-centered resource as they face the challenge of helping their children with learning disabilities”
“Thank you so much for the work you do with our children. You teach them so much more than reading, math, and science. They learn by watching you – by example. You all are very caring and nurturing in the way that you teach. You not only prepare them for this life, but for the next. We were nervous about sending our son to a new school, especially after the difficult summer our family lived through. God is so good. He blessed our family with a miracle in saving and healing our daughter, and He continues to bless us by watching over our son at Cornerstone. We have found a school that understands children with ADHD. Our son has adjusted well, and he really likes going to school. It takes special folks to teach. It takes extra special folks to teach children with special needs.
My son, Zach, is new to Cornerstone Academy of Mount Airy MD this year. Today when I was sad about a life event, he asked me if we should go in and pray with Mrs Zeher and Mrs Kirk. Tearfully I agreed. We walked in and these ladies stopped what they were doing immediately, came over and prayed for guidance for my family. Today totally reaffirmed my decision to place Zach at Cornerstone. What an amazing blessing they have been in our lives.
“Cornerstone Academy had the perfect combination of things most important to us that allowed our daughter, Sarah, to thrive to her utmost potential. Given the individualized attention she received from educational specialists who genuinely, I mean genuinely cared about her, made all the difference in the world.
Not only did they find the right mix that allowed her to succeed academically but provided a safe environment for her to feel good about herself while finding that delicate point of maximizing potential without frustration and discouragement. The customized curriculum and low student to teacher ratio were also keys to her success. They gently pushed her as far as she could go. Our daughter received a high school diploma that helped her gain employment after graduation.
Although she was painfully shy and distanced herself from her classmates, the teachers intentionally worked on this area of Sarah’s growth. As a result, she became friends with a classmate at Cornerstone who has been her best friend ever since. Sarah is definitely a success story due in no small measure to the teachers at Cornerstone Academy. We highly recommend Cornerstone Academy.”
My daughter’s 4 years here are the best of her entire school years. After moving from private to public and back to private school again, our daughter finally has the attention and positive environment she needs to succeed. A small classroom environment, caring teachers, and a curriculum that is geared towards kids with many different learning styles and needs, she will graduate this year with confidence and the skills she needs to be successful! Wish we had found it 3 years sooner!
